The evidence

Where every mission comes from

Amendi is not a tip generator with a science-y voice. Every mission in the app maps to a named mechanism from four bodies of work, carries a plain-English explanation of that mechanism, and has passed an eight-point safety checklist before it ever reaches you.

Four sources
The Gottman Method

Love maps, bids for connection and turning toward, the 5:1 ratio of positive to negative, fondness and admiration, rituals of connection, soft startup — and the four behaviours that predict collapse.

Drives · attention, words, rituals
Emotionally Focused Therapy

The pursue–withdraw cycle as the shared enemy; attachment needs hiding underneath your partner's worst behaviour; de-escalation from your own end of the loop.

Drives · the fight-day branch
Bowen family systems

Differentiation of self, one-sided change altering a whole system, and not transmitting anxiety through the household circuit.

Drives · self-regulation missions
Behavioural design

Anchor plus tiny action, variability against habituation, and autonomy — you can always skip without penalty. This is what makes the science survive a Tuesday.

Drives · the 60-second format
From mechanism to mission

One finding, translated into sixty seconds

The finding

Couples who stayed together turned toward each other's small bids for connection about 86% of the time. Couples heading for divorce: 33%.

The mechanism

A bid asks one question — are you there? Every answered bid raises the odds the next one gets sent.

The mission

"Tonight, when they say something about their day, put your phone face-down and give it ten seconds of your actual attention."

Eight tests every mission passes
01Unilateral. Doable without your partner knowing or agreeing.
02Under a minute — or it carries an honest time badge.
03Worst-day safe. If your partner is having their worst day, it still can't humiliate you.
04Transparent. If your partner found out, you wouldn't be ashamed — any therapist could assign it openly.
05Mechanism named and written in plain English.
06Concrete. An observable action, never "be kinder".
07Partner-neutral language. No gendered assumptions, no diagnoses.
08No promises. Nothing in the text predicts how your partner will react.

What Amendi never does

Sets sex as a goal, or frames touch as a step toward it
Asks you to check, read, or find out anything about your partner
Suggests tests, ultimatums, or staged scenes
Uses children as leverage
Diagnoses you or your partner
Promises an outcome, a percentage, or a timeline

And what it is not

Amendi is a self-guided wellness program informed by clinical research. It is not therapy, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for professional help. If your relationship doesn't feel safe, we will say so and point you elsewhere — support resources →
